Low-cost flights to Bulgaria
Hungary's Wizz Air is the first low-cost airline that was officially admitted to Bulgaria's market, it was announced at the official presentation of the company in Sofia.
Wizz Air will execute three Sofia-Budapest flights weekly as of September 2005 and will work separately from the Hungarian Maleev that is already on Bulgaria's market.
Tickets are already being sold online varying from EUR 19.99 to EUR 29.99.
Wizz Air's entry on Bulgaria's market is a strategic step for the company that is planning to spread across Eastern Europe, outside EU's boundaries, Jozsef Varadi, Chief Executive Officer and chairman of the company said in Sofia. "This is our first step in Bulgaria but our goal is to become the biggest company here, "he added.
Wizz declared its interest in launching flights to Bulgaria and Romania after the two countries sign an "Open Sky" agreement. Bulgaria will launch talks for joining the common European air space in September.
Wizz Air is a new European low-cost airline focusing on the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The airline took off at the end of May from the southern Polish city of Katowice, initially flying to Budapest, London's Luton airport, Rome, Milan, Venice and Berlin.
